My name is Bertha.  I am an approximately 3-year-old female Mastiff mix. I am full of personality and love attention.  I am looking for a home without small children or cats, but I LOVE playful male dogs.  The volunteers say that I am a strong and energetic gal and that I crave attention. What can I say? I'm a people pleaser!  Volunteers love walking with me because I make walks fun and exciting.  I am generally well behaved, but I have a streak of mischief that loves to come out and add a little excitement to the day.  I do need an experienced dog family as I have some resource guarding issues that need to be addressed.

I was found as a stray dog, dumped on a busy highway in Harrisburg in early 2017.  Speranza hoped that someone would claim me, as I seem to have been someone's pet.  Unfortunately, no one did.  I spent a few months in rehab at the rescue working through my resource guarding issues, but have gotten the green light to find my forever family!

Check out my report card!

I know basic commands and take treats very nicely, outside of my kennel.  Inside my kennel I guard my treats and food. With proper handling and a routine I am a great dog and can be very well managed.  I keep my kennel very clean and walk well on a leash, except for when I have an energetic burst and act out a bit.  I would love to take some obedience training with my new family and work on my guarding issues.
